Below you'll find a list of the remaining nursery items we still need, if you would like to get a gift but aren't
sure what.
When you do buy something from the list, please make sure you record it using the "I bought this!" link
next to each item. Steve and Jonica won’t see what you've bought but it will minimize the amount of duplicates
they receive by allowing other visitors to the site to see what is still needed.
As you'll see, this page is split up into three sections:
Please note that we hope to keep the baby's gender a surprise until the birth so while you can buy anything you
think beautiful, the traditional "neutral" colours are probably easiest. Like this site, the baby's room will be
done predominantly in soft natural browns and green.
What we're saving up for
There are a lot of things that we need, and a lot of things that would be nice to have. If you'd like to get us
something for the nursery but just aren't sure what, here are a few things we could put a cash gift to good use
for.
Item | Details |
Pram | Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa Brown for Ziggy's pram! |
Cot | Thank you, Oupa en Ouma Joubert for Ziggy's cot! |
Compactum | aka a changing table, with some room underneath for supplies and clothes |
Rocking Chair | The lovely people at Sit Sit So Rockers make rocking chairs designed with breastfeeding mommies in mind, made to order so they cater for every family's preferences and nursery colours. Ziggy's chair is currently being made! |
Baby sling | There are a number of slings available; our current favourite is the Ubba Bubba carrier. |
What not to buy us
There are some things we just won't use; there are other things we're a bit specific about and would like to choose
ourselves. And then there's also our hippie tendencies strong environmental concerns. The following items are
not good ideas to get us as gifts.
Item | Reason |
Disposable nappies | Modern reusable nappies are a far cry from the folded white squares and buckets of sterilizer most of us would have grown up with. We will, as long as we find practical, try to avoid the more environmentally dubious (and much more expensive) disposable route by choosing a modern reusable nappy system. If you'd like to know more, see 'Why resuable nappies?' in the Quick Links section. There are also links to several different types of cloth nappy systems and biodegradable disposable nappies on the Links page. |
Bottles | We hope to breastfeed, already reducing the need for bottles, and we already have enough for using with expressed milk (so that Steve can also experience the bonding of feeding time). |
Baby monitor | Angelcare monitors are paid for by our medical aid so there's no need for anyone to spend money on baby monitors. |
Bed linen | Our dear friend is making us linen to match the rocking chair for the nursery. Thank you, Aunty Leigh! |
What we still need
At last, you might say, a normal list of normal things normal people can buy for a normal stork party. Please remember to
indicate how many of an item you've bought by clicking on "I bought this!" next to the item so other visitors
know what is still needed.
